Abstract Background The Chenopodium genus is a plant family widely spread worldwide that includes various species reputed to possess several medicinal virtues in folk medicines. ambrosioides L. among the most used plants traditional medicines worldwide. This review aimed highlight ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemical status, and pharmacological properties of C. Main body abstract analysis relevant data highlights uses against human veterinary diseases forty countries. Most indications consisted gastrointestinal tract dysfunctioning troubles worms parasitemia. Around 330 chemical compounds have been identified different parts, especially its essential oil fractions (59.84%). However, only few compounds—mainly monoterpenes glycosides—have isolated characterized. Experimental studies validated large scale significant health benefits. It appeared many are antioxidant, insecticidal, trypanocidal, analgesic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, acaricidal, amoebicidal, anthelmintic, anticancer, antibacterial, antidiabetic, antidiarrheal, antifertility, anti-leishmanial, antimalarial, antipyretic, antisickling, antischistosomal, antiulcer, anxiolytic, immunomodulatory, molluscicidal, vasorelaxant agents. Short conclusion Thus, necessitates further isolate characterize new bioactive secondary metabolites investigations precise mechanisms action before clinical trials.
